2020 Bee Palooza
What is the MSU Bee Palooza and how did it start?

Pollinators have been in the news a lot over the last decade. This has led to a broader awareness and interest in pollinators and what humans can do to help. In 2012, when the United States established its National Pollinator Week, members of the MSU Department of Entomology were inspired to host the first Bee Palooza in the MSU Horticulture Gardens. Bee Palooza began as a free, fun and educational event to provide an afternoon of interactive activities for all ages. Visitors from across the region enjoyed stations set up around the garden displaying honey bee and bumble bee colonies, examples of wild Michigan bees, wild bee hotels, plants and gardening practices to support pollinators.

In 2020, Bee Palooza goes virtual...

Over the next few months we will be working on what we're calling Virtual Bee Palooza. Instead of hosting a large event at the MSU Gardens in East Lansing in June, we will be posting a set of curated materials and suggested activities that people will be able to explore on their own from wherever they may be.

The Bee Hotel will still remain in the MSU Horticulture Gardens for people to visit, but we hope that this new format will inspire people all over the State of Michigan (and bee-yond!) to consider how they can become better pollinator stewards in their own communities.
